Boston has their own WEBSITE for their event too! Download Boston Flyer Boston Outreach Letter Dear Friends, March, 2008 ushered in the sixth year of war and occupation “without end” on Iraq. In an act of arrogance and impunity, Congress in a bipartisan vote approved another In light of these developments, grass roots forces from around the country gathered together at the end of June for the National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation in Cleveland, Ohio. At the conference an action plan for the months ahead was discussed and approved in a democratic vote. As part of this plan, over 95% voted in favor of supporting pre-election protests being organized in cities and localities around the country on October 11, 2008. It was on October 11, 2002 that Congress approved the “Iraq War Resolution” granting the Bush administration authorization to invade Iraq. The weeks ahead promise to be filled with debate as the election campaigns gear up. Instead of being spectators who watch the media pundits put their spin on the political pronouncements of the candidates, the October 11 protests present us with an opportunity to be engaged in injecting our agenda, the antiwar agenda, into the intensifying debate. Please join us in an initial planning meeting as we prepare a Boston protest demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all occupation forces from Iraq and the closing of all military bases. All are invited. Looking forward to seeing you there. Columbus, OH How Can We Help Fix the Economy? -STOP THE WAR NOW! Saturday, October 11th, 2008, at noon. Protest the War on Iraq. Be part of a visible anti-war presence with signs and banners Columbus locations: Corner of North Broadway and High and at corner of North High St. and Rt 161 in Worthington. Six years ago, on October 11, 2002, the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly passed a Joint Resolution authorizing the Bush Administration to launch the Iraq war. Since then, Congress has continued to provide billions of dollars for the war and occupation. On Saturday, October 11, 2008 — six years after Congress gave the green light for war — demonstrations, vigils and other events will be held in cities around the country calling for an end to the war and occupation of Iraq. These events, held as the election campaign gears up, will keep the anti-war message in the streets. In this election year, some politician's talk about "winning the war" and staying in Iraq for 100 years, other politicians are talking about "withdrawal timetables," or taking troops out of Iraq only to send them to Afghanistan instead. But there is no such thing as "winning a war" that was based on lies and deceptions. The people of Iraq want the occupation troops out of their country. The war and occupation must end now! The October 11th day of action is endorsed by the National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation June, 2008) and by the Central Ohio Peace Network. | Madison, WI
Sun. Oct. 12th at 3pm at the Capitol Demands of the event include:
This rally in Madison is part of a national series of protests over the weekend. Anti-war groups are observing October 11, the sixth anniversary of the Iraq War Resolution, as a national day of action against the war (www.oct11.org). Also, immigrant rights groups are observing October 12, Columbus Day, as a national day of action against the raids and deportations. Several cities are combining these observances. According to a member of the Madison Area Peace Coalition, “In Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. pursues military conquest, colonial rule, and extraction of mineral wealth with devastating consequences for people. This has parallels with Columbus’ conquest of the New World five hundred years ago. We call on our government now to stop its shameful war policy that has cost so many lives, and we demand peace, human, civil, and workers’ rights.” Sponsors of the Madison event include the Immigrant Workers Union (UTI), the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, the Madison Area Peace Coalition, the Student Labor Action Coalition, AFSCME Local 171 Executive Council, Student Progressive Dane, MECHA, Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, International Workers of the World – Madison branch, Iraq Veterans against the War, Workers Rights Center, and the International Socialist Organization. |

| Seattle Seattle: A new city-wide coalition formed after the Cleveland conference is planning an action on October 11. Download Seattle Flyer Help Make October 11 a National Day of Antiwar Action! An open letter to all those against the war: The Seattle Antiwar Action Coalition (SAWAC) is a newly formed, diverse and democratic coalition looking to turn the massive antiwar sentiment in Seattle and the Northwest into a vibrant movement with the power to end the war. We are planning a march and rally in Seattle on October 11, and strongly encourage antiwar activists throughout the Northwest to join us in Seattle or organize antiwar activities in other communities for that date. Why October 11? It was on October 11, 2002 that Congress approved the “Iraq War Resolution” granting the Bush administration authorization to invade Iraq. October 11 also falls four days after the seventh anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, and one day before Indigenous People’s Day, the 516th anniversary of Columbus’ invasion of the Americas. Let’s take a stand against war and occupation anywhere! March, 2008, ushered in the sixth year of war and occupation “without end” on Iraq. October 7, 2008 will mark seven years of occupation of Afghanistan. For the Iraqi and Afghan people these have been years of terror, death, and destruction. Hundreds of thousands are dead and millions displaced. Entire populations live in a nightmare state, where daily necessities and basic human rights are impossible dreams. In an act of arrogance and impunity, a Democrat-led Congress has approved another $162 billion in funding for the wars on Iraq and Afghanistan. Stepped up threats against Iran and the increased likelihood of a U.S. troop “surge” into Afghanistan point to an imperative for action from the peace and justice movement. In light of these developments, grassroots forces from around the country came to Cleveland at the end of June for the National Assembly to End the Iraq War and Occupation. 95% voted in favor of supporting pre-election protests on October 11, 2008. Demonstrations are now being planned for many cities, including Boston, Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and Seattle and the list is growing. The weeks ahead promise to be filled with debate as the election campaigns gear up. Millions of people across the country will be following and engaging in political issues and discussion. October 11 gives us the opportunity to inject the antiwar agenda into the intensifying debate, to say no to the devastation of war abroad and its crippling economic effects at home. Planning is taking place at SAWAC meetings every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Please add your voice to the discussion. Contact us for more information and find a way to get involved. The time to act is NOW! Together, we can stop the war! Meeting location: Central Lutheran Church, 1710 11th Ave, Seattle. Beginning September 23rd meetings will be held at Seattle Central Community College, Room BE1110. Email: seattle.awac@gmail.com |
